Jean Pretorius, Director of PaintLife, is a Sydney-based realist artist with a particular interest in 2D and 3D portraiture. After receiving a Ph.D. in Pure Mathematics at Cambridge (UK) in 1993, he worked in mathematical finance and investment until 2007. His interests next turned to art, culminating in three years of full time study at Julian Ashton Art School from 2010 - 2012. Aside from continued study in drawing, painting and sculpture, he is keenly interested in colour theory and in 2011 published a first app to demonstrate paint mixing to beginner painters. More recently he worked with Werner Dittrich to create PaintEngine and related software. His personal website can be found here.
